The Department of Political Science, a recent addition in 2020, focuses on equipping students with a deep understanding of political systems, theories, and processes. This education empowers individuals to analyze and contribute to the political development of Somalia, fostering democratic values and good governance.
Program Educational Objectives:
Upon graduation, students of the Department of Political Science will be able to:
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of fundamental political concepts, theories, and institutions.
- Apply critical thinking and analytical skills to assess political phenomena and develop informed solutions to contemporary challenges.
- Effectively communicate political ideas, arguments, and research findings in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner.
- Contribute to the advancement of democratic values and good governance in Somalia and beyond.
Program Learning Outcomes:
Graduates of the Department of Political Science will exhibit the following competencies:
- Knowledge of Political Systems: Possess a comprehensive understanding of the structure, functions, and dynamics of various political systems, including democratic, authoritarian, and hybrid systems.
- Theoretical Expertise: Demonstrate a strong grasp of major political theories, including classical, modern, and postmodern approaches, and apply them to the analysis of real-world political phenomena.
- Comparative Analysis: Effectively compare and contrast different political systems, identifying their strengths, weaknesses, and potential for change.
- Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Demonstrate critical thinking skills to analyze complex political issues, formulate well-reasoned arguments, and develop innovative solutions to contemporary challenges.
- Effective Communication: Communicate political ideas, arguments, and research findings clearly, concisely, and persuasively in both oral and written forms.
- Research Skills: Conduct rigorous research using appropriate methodologies, gather and analyze relevant data, and present findings in a professional manner.
- Civic Engagement: Demonstrate a commitment to civic engagement and active participation in the political process.
- Global Perspective: Possess a global perspective on political issues, understanding the interconnectedness of political systems and the impact of global events on domestic politics.
- Completion of secondary school with a minimum overall average of 50%
- Should bring the original and a copy of secondary school certificate
- Should bring Six (6) passport size photos with white background
- Should bring the original copy of a letter of good conduct issued by your secondary school
- Should bring a sponsorship letter from your guardian
- Should successfully pass an admission interview and/or test
- Pay non-refundable Processing and ID card fees of USD $50 (bank draft)
